Pre- & Post-Procedure Instructions
Botox
Pre-Procedure:
- Avoid consuming alcohol 24 hours before and after your scheduled appointment to reduce the potential for bruising.
- Avoid NSAIDs (i.e. Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil) and Aleve (Naprosyn) for 24-48 hours before your scheduled appointment.
- One week prior to your scheduled appointment, do your best to avoid Omega-3 (fish oil) capsules, Vitamin E, St. John’s Wort, aspirin (or any medication containing acetylsalicylic acid), and dietary supplements including ginkgo biloba, evening primrose oil, garlic, feverfew, and ginseng. These medications have the potential to increase bleeding with injections, though it’s typically quite minor. If you take aspirin for a cardiovascular condition, please consult with your physician before pausing your medication.
- Prior to your appointment, please disclose to your injector if you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding. This is a contraindication to Botox injections, and the health & safety of our patients (and their babies) is of the utmost importance!
- If possible — and if you are comfortable doing so — please arrive with a clean, make-up free face.
- Botox is the perfect treatment to couple with many other aesthetic procedures. If you are looking to maximize your appointment time, be sure to ask our team during scheduling if you can combine your Botox treatment with another treatment.
Post-Procedure:
- Remain upright for 4 hours. Try to avoid bending over or lying down, especially in a prone/face-down position (i.e. on a massage table). These position changes may cause the medication to migrate to areas other than the targeted muscle.
- Avoid any activity that causes excessive sweating or flushing, including hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, or outdoor activities in the sun for the remainder of the treatment day. Keep any exercise light immediately post-treatment (you may resume normal activities the next day).
- Avoid massaging the treated area for 4 hours post-procedure.
Some patients experience a mild headache after treatment. If needed, you can take Tylenol to relieve symptoms. - You may shower and wash your face as you normally would in the evening after your treatment.
- If mild bruising or swelling occurs, you may use oral and/or topical Arnica Montana, which can be found at most drug stores and grocery store pharmacy/natural food sections.
- You may apply makeup after your treatment, but wait about 4 hours and keep it relatively light.
- Schedule microneedling treatments at least 2 weeks after any Botox appointment to allow the medication ample time to settle.

- Sculptra is the perfect treatment to couple with many other aesthetic procedures. If you are looking to maximize your appointment time, be sure to ask our team during scheduling if you can combine treatments.
Post-Procedure
- Immediately after your Sculptra treatment, redness, swelling, and/or bruising may appear.
- To help the product distribute evenly, it is recommended to massage the treated areas for five minutes, five times per day for five days after the injection session to promote a natural-looking correction.
- Treat, Wait, Assess. When being treated with Sculptra, only a limited correction will be made. The contour deficiency will be under-corrected, never fully corrected or overcorrected (overfilled) during any injection session. A re-evaluation may be needed but no more than three weeks after the injection session to determine if additional correction is needed.
- Please be advised that typically at the end of your Sculptra procedure, it is expected to experience some degree of swelling associated with the injection itself. This will give the appearance of a full correction. This injection-related swelling typically resolves in several hours to a few days. For this reason, the original contour deficiency may initially reappear, but the deficiency is expected to gradually improve within several weeks as the Scupltra Aesthetic beings to work. There may be a potential need for up to four injection sessions (typically three) to see full correction.
- Avoid any activity that causes excessive sweating or flushing, including hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, or outdoor activities in the sun for the remainder of the treatment day. Keep any exercise light immediately post-treatment (you may resume.
- You may shower and wash your face as you normally would in the evening after your treatment.

- You may apply makeup after your treatment, but wait about 4 hours and keep it relatively light.

PDO Threads
Post-Procedure
- Recovery is generally quick, with most patients returning to work the next day.
- Avoid picking and manipulating the suture at the procedure site. This can cause more bruising, infection, the perforation of the suture through the surface of the skin or the disjunction of the suture to the skin and muscle.
- Avoid wearing makeup for the rest of the day after your procedure.
- You may wash your hair and face with very gentle upward and outward motions that lift the skin in the same directions as the sutures lift the skin.
- If tape or dressings are applied, these can be removed after 24 hours. When removing tape or dressings, patients must remove carefully and in a bottom to top pulling direction. Moisten the area with a small amount of face oil.
- Avoid flying for 48 hours after your procedure.
- Keep head elevated on several pillows for the first 3 nights after procedure.
- Avoid baths and use only showers for one week following your procedure.
- Avoid excessive exercise/sport for one week following your procedure.
- Avoid any direct pressure to the face and area where the sutures were placed for one week after the procedure (for example, sleeping face down, excessive chewing, talking, yawning, smiling and other facial movements during the week after your procedure.
- Banding may appear, which is normal and is nothing to be concerned about. Applying warm water compresses and time will resolve any banding issues.
- Avoid direct heat such as laser treatment such as IPL or laser hair removal for at least a month.
- For blood clot type bruises (hematomas) you may apply cold compresses gently to the area.
- Arnica or Vitamin K may be applied after procedure for 5-7 days for bruising and swelling if needed.
- There will be immediate visible results after treatment with suspensory threads, as well as the area feeling tighter. Over the first few days to weeks, the tight feeling will relax to some degree.
- Soreness almost always occurs after treatment. There may be a dull pain that typically goes away after a week or two. There will often be discomfort from chewing or any facial movement. Another kind of pain after PDO threads can be described as “twinges”, “zingers”, or “quick shocks”, this is completely normal, and is caused by the threads stimulating a nerve ending. This kind of pain gradually resolves within several weeks after thread placement.
- Asymmetry or puckering of the skin may occur and typically resolves with time.
- You may taker Tylenol for pain, especially at bedtime during the first few days. Taking other pain relievers can interfere with the collagen-stimulating effect of the threads.
When To Call
- If you experience increased redness, fever or drainage from the thread site.
- If a thread begins to poke through the skin.
- Any puckering or asymmetry that lasts longer than one week.
- If you are experiencing any significant pain.
