After care can be confusing for patients when it comes to our non-invasive aesthetic injectable treatment options. When it comes to injections, medications, and supplements, here’s what you need to know!
If possible and permitted by your physician, discontinuing the use of blood-thinners, NSAIDS, and herbal supplements two weeks prior to procedures is encouraged as an attempt to reduce the chance of bruising.
Here’s a list of the most common culprits when it comes to bruising:
NSAIDS
Fish Oil
Vitamin E
Blood Thinners
Ginseng
Ginko Biloba
Garlic
Ibuprofen/Aleve/Advil
Aspirin
So what happens if you follow all of the “rules” and still bruise and/or swell? Unfortunately, when it comes to injectables, the risk of some minor downtime is always possible because these treatments include putting a needle into the skin.
Here’s a list of our greatest Tips + Tricks to speed up your recovery process:
*Intermittent Icing (think 20 mins on, 20 mins off). Our glitter ice packs are perfect for the job.
*Eating pineapple before and for up to 7 days after procedure (bromelain is a strong anti inflammatory).
*Use Tylenol, Advil, and Benedryl after injections to help minimize swelling and to help with any soreness.
*After 48 hours, light massage and heat (hot compresses or facial massage in a warm shower) to the area can help heal bruises faster.
*Bruising and swelling is unfortunately always a risk when we use a needle in the skin. If possible, we encourage patients to plan injections 2-4 weeks prior to an event.
*Topical Arnica Montana (which can also be found at your local drug or health food store) is a homeopathic gel that is applied to the skin and can help you to heal more rapidly.
